How can we help?
Fixes for the most common questions — from Android’s VPN permission to slow speeds.
Getting connected
- Open GloNet. A location is selected for you automatically on first launch.
- To change it, open the Locations tab and choose a location.
- On the Home tab, tap Connect.
- The first time, Android asks to allow a VPN connection — tap OK. On Android 13 and later you may also be asked to allow notifications, which GloNet uses for its ongoing VPN status notification.
- When the app shows Protected and a key icon appears in your status bar, you’re connected.
Android VPN permission
Android requires every VPN app to ask for your permission before it can create a VPN connection. GloNet can’t connect without it.
If you tapped “Cancel”
Tap Connect again — Android will ask once more.
If the request doesn’t appear
- Another VPN app may be set as Always-on VPN. Open Android Settings → Network & internet → VPN (the path can vary by device), and turn off Always-on VPN for the other app.
- Only one VPN can be active at a time. Disconnect any other VPN app first.
- Work or school devices may restrict VPN apps. Check with your administrator.
Revoking permission
You can remove GloNet’s VPN permission at any time in Android Settings → Network & internet → VPN.
I can’t connect
If the app shows Securing connection… and then returns to Not protected with a “Couldn’t connect” message, try these steps in order:
- Check that you’re online without the VPN — for example, open a website.
- On public Wi-Fi, complete any sign-in page first, then connect.
- Tap Connect again. Temporary network changes can interrupt the first attempt.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to see if one network is blocking VPN connections.
- Make sure no other VPN app is connected or set to Always-on.
- Update GloNet to the latest version.
- Restart your device and try again.
Some networks (such as some workplaces, schools or hotels) block VPN connections. If GloNet works on another network, the original network is likely blocking it.
Locations won’t load
If the Locations tab shows “Couldn’t load locations”, the app couldn’t reach our server list.
- Check your internet connection, then tap Try again or pull down to refresh.
- On public Wi-Fi, complete the network’s sign-in page first.
- If it still fails, our service may be temporarily unavailable. Please try again a little later.
GloNet currently offers one location: Ashburn, Virginia (US East). New locations appear in the list automatically when they go live.
Slow speeds
With a VPN, your traffic travels to the GloNet server before reaching the internet, so some change in speed is normal. Things that affect it:
- Distance. Our current server is in the eastern United States. The further you are from it, the higher the latency.
- Your local network. Weak Wi-Fi or a congested mobile network limits speed with or without a VPN.
- Server load at busy times.
Use the Speed test tab to compare your speed connected and disconnected. Moving closer to your router or switching networks often helps.
The VPN disconnects on its own
- Some devices stop background apps to save battery. In Android Settings → Apps → GloNet VPN → Battery, choose Unrestricted (wording varies by device).
- Starting another VPN app disconnects GloNet. Only one VPN can be active at a time.
- Switching networks can briefly interrupt the connection. Tap Connect again if needed.
Updating the app
GloNet will be distributed through Google Play. To update, open the Play Store, search for GloNet VPN, and tap Update — or turn on automatic updates for the app.
You can see your installed version in the app under Settings → About. GloNet requires Android 7.0 or later. We don’t distribute the app as a direct download (APK).
